In the Beginning Was the Word

The Word of God
This passage of scripture is of the most telling that expresses the significance of Jesus Christ as the original plan for God, emulating from Him.

[Jhn 1:1-5 KJV] 1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men. 5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

In the beginning was the Word. Meaning that in the very origin of time when time existed, already was the Word of God, who was with God and was God. The WORD is logos in Greek, meaning an expression of something. It isn’t something created, but emulates from something as an image for it. This logos was in the beginning with God when He created.

All things were made by him (origin is “it”, but some do not like that because to them they perceive an inanimate object, which isn’t necessarily true, but don’t get hung up on it because it doesn’t say it that way in the KJV). In him (“it”) was life and the light of men. This entity, which is the Word, was significant that everything was given life through it. And because it is the light revealing all things, darkness cannot perceive it, because when it is present, darkness disappears.

[Jhn 1:9-14 KJV] 9 [That] was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world. 10 He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. 11 He came unto his own, and his own received him not. 12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, [even] to them that believe on his name: 13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. 14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

This logos is the true light, meaning all else is insignificant compared to him. That light, which was the Word, came into the world that was even happened because of him. But the world in which he created did not know him. And not even those whom were called of his own. But to those who did receive who he was, he gave a way in which they become sons of God, who believe in his name (now identified as a person, not just an “it”). And not just those designated as his own, but ALL who believe (to put one’s whole weight upon – fully trust in).

Now here is where it gets personified. v14 THE WORD BECAME FLESH and dwelt among us. In John 3:16 it picks it up and says, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son.” God offered His Word, His expression in the bodily form to be a perfect sacrifice. BEGOTTEN means uniquely becoming. Again, the perception people do not like, because it indicates an entity that was created. But we already see that the Word was ALWAYS with God, and always existed. Just not as a human person. That human WAS born in flesh and having to become. Don’t get hung up, the Word was always present with God, therefore is his express image in the Son, who is Jesus Christ.

This is expanded in Colossians:

[Col 1:15-20 KJV] 15 Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: 16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether [they be] thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: 17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. 18 And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all [things] he might have the preeminence. 19 For it pleased [the Father] that in him should all fulness dwell; 20 And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, [I say], whether [they be] things in earth, or things in heaven.

The good news is that in John 3:16 it states that that whosoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. To believe means to receive (see John 1:11,12) and that to have faith in (trust in fully). One must put his whole weight upon this person in trusting him and in his merit for their salvation. Jesus is God (emulating from him) and is the means for salvation that God provided for whoever believes. Even though had to “become” in the flesh to be our substitutionary sacrifice to redeem us from our sin for those who receive Him by faith.
